
P-Bruins Defeat Devils 5-2

Lowell, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Lowell Devils 5-2 Wednesday evening at the Tsongas Arena. The P-Bruins got their goals from Vladimir Sobotka, Jonathan Tremblay, Ryan Stokes, Jeremy Reich and Mikko Lehtonen. The P-Bruins finish the regular season with two road games, before beginning the Calder Cup Playoffs at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Wednesday, April 15 at 7:05 p.m.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 14:32 mark of the opening period. Johnny Boychuk sent the puck out of the P-Bruins zone the Zach Hamill in the neutral zone. He tipped the puck up ahead to Sobotka, giving him a partial breakaway. Sobotka scored from the left face off circle, his 20th goal of the season. The P-Bruins went into the first intermission leading 1-0.
Providence went ahead 2-0 at the 4:33 mark. Ned Lukacevic had the puck halfway up the left boards. He sent it for the front of the net where Levi Nelson took a shot. The rebound came to Tremblay, who tallied his first goal of the season. The P-Bruins took a 3-0 lead at the 14:04 mark. Mikko Lehtonen held the puck behind the net and worked it up the boards to Peter Schaefer. He sent the puck to the blue line, where Stokes blasted the puck into the net for his first goal of the season. The Devils got on the board at the 19:41 mark. Alexander Vasyunov netted his 15th goal of the season, while Mark Fraser and Tyler Eckford recorded the assists. The P-Bruins went into the second intermission with a 3-1 lead.
The P-Bruins took a 4-1 lead at the 9:51 mark of the third period. Wacey Rabbit sent the puck along the boards to Jordan Knackstedt, who muscled his way past two Devils and fed the puck to Reich, who scored from the left face off circle, his 19th goal of the season. Seconds later at the 10:45 mark, Lehtonen netted his 28th goal of the season to put Providence on top 5-1. Schaefer and Dan Ryder picked up the assists. Lowell finished off the scoring at the 19:52 mark. Michael Swift tallied his 12th goal of the season with Stephen Gionta grabbing the lone assist. The P-Bruins went on to the 5-2 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 31 of 33 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jeff Frazee made 33 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins were 0-for-3 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
Friday Providence heads to the Cumberland County Civic Center to face the Portland Pirates at 7:00 p.m. before finishing the regular season Saturday with a trip to the DCU Center against the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. The P-Bruins begin the Calder Cup Playoffs at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Wednesday, April 15 at 7:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
