Albany Devils News Release
LOWELL, Mass. - The Lowell Devils closed out their season series against the Providence Bruins with a 5-2 loss on Wednesday night at the Tsongas Arena. Mikko Lehtonen registered a goal and an assist in the win for Providence.
The Bruins potted the only goal of the first frame as Zach Hamill sent a head-man pass into the Lowell zone that gained Vladimir Sobotka some space on the far circle. Sobotka snapped a quick wrister past Jeff Frazee to make it 1-0 for Providence.
Jonathan Tremblay's first of the season made it 2-0 at 4:33 of the second, knocking in a loose puck that bounced to him uncovered on the near post. The first goal of year for Ryan Stokes then put the Bruins by three as his long shot fluttered past a screened Frazee at 14:04.
The Devils got on the board with 28.2 seconds left until the intermission when Alexander Vasyunov banged home a rebound after Tuukka Rask failed to control Mark Fraser's one-timer.
Looking to keep pace with the Hartford Wolf Pack ahead of them in the division standings, the Bruins put the game away when they opened up a four-goal cushion on goals 54 seconds apart midway through the third.
Jeremy Reich was the trailing player on a 3-on-2 and sniped a pass into the top right corner of the Devils' net at 9:51. Providence then made it 5-1 when Lehtonen skated down the left wing, cut to the front of the net and squeezed a puck under the right arm of Frazee.
Lowell completed the scoring on Michael Swift's goal with 7.7 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Lowell Devils' home finale is on Friday, April 10 at 7:00 p.m. against the Hartford Wolf Pack. Listen as Ryan Johnston brings you all of the live action on 980AM-WCAP or at ahllive.com.
