Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â Louisiana IceGators media relations and multimedia manager Ryan Stanzel will leave the team later this month, general manager Brian Kelley announced Tuesday. Stanzel has accepted a job as the director of communications with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League and will begin there on Monday, Nov. 24. The Aeros are the IceGators' AHL affiliate.
Kelley also announced the hiring of Ryan Bomberger, who will be the new media relations and multimedia coordinator. Bomberger recently completed an internship with the ECHL and will work with Bruce Levine, who will expand his responsibilities with the franchise to include the management of the media relations. The two-man team will oversee all aspects of the organization's media relations, marketing and multi-media operations beginning on Monday.
"I of course want to thank the organization for all it has done for me in the last 2 1/2 seasons," said the 25-year-old Stanzel. "The IceGators are a first-class organization. One of the reasons this move is so hard is that I believe so much in what Gator Play, LLC, and the IceGators are doing. I wish them all the luck in the future. The opportunity with the Aeros and Minnesota Sports and Entertainment was too good to pass up."
"I would be remiss to not thank the most important people â the fans," added Stanzel. "There's no doubt in my mind that this area has the best fans in the ECHL. I look forward to coming back to the Cajundome, sitting amongst you and cheering the âGators on."
"Ryan Stanzel deserves this opportunity; his work ethic and knowledge are two attributes that will allow him to keep advancing in his profession. He had other opportunities this summer that he turned down because of his dedication to this franchise and this community. This is an unbelievable opportunity that he could not pass up, and he will shine with the Aeros from day one â they have a tremendous asset in Ryan," said Kelley. "We are also very lucky to have a relationship with the ECHL office which allowed us to secure Ryan Bomberger in the middle of the season. Ryan was an intern with the League Office and had spent this season working as an administrative assistant in Princeton. His knowledge of the requirements demanded on a franchise by the ECHL and his computer skills will be wonderful assets to our organization. He will also benefit from the knowledge of Bruce Levine, who will add the media relations managerial duties under his direction."
Bomberger graduated from Syracuse with a broadcast journalism major in 1989, and he also holds a masters degree in sports management from Indiana University. He completed the prestigious Full Sail Real World Education Digital Media course in Winter Park, Fla., in 2002. After his graduation from Indiana, Bomberger worked in media relations for both the Hoosiers and Miami (OH) University. He spent seven years with Electronic Data Systems in Camp Hill, Pa., where he worked in system production support. Bomberger finished his internship with the ECHL in June.
