BOISE, Idaho, January 7, 2011 - The Idaho Stampede (4-13) defeated the New Mexico Thunderbirds 110-90 (10-8) at Qwest Arena Friday night. After trailing by as many as 11 points in the first quarter, the Stampede went on to outscore the T-birds in every successive quarter. Idaho starters scored 63 points with Carlos Wheeler leading the charge with 26 (eight rebounds, two assists), while two other starters, Luke Jackson (16 points, two rebounds, three assists) and Cedric Jackson (12 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds, three steals) also scored double digit points.
The Stampede had plenty of help off the bench, with three players scoring in double digits. Jermareo Davidson led the bench with 18 points and seven rebounds. Lance Hurdle (13 points) and Willie Jenkins (10 points, 4-4 FG, 2-2 3FG) also scored double digits. After a cold first quarter, Idaho shot 58.3 percent the rest of the way, culminating with a scorching fourth quarter in which they made 12-of-17 (70.6 percent) shots and 5-of-6 free throws.
The Thunderbirds had four players scoring double digits, with starter Shane Edwards leading at 23.
The Stampede complete the season series with New Mexico tomorrow at Qwest Arena at 7 p.m.
