HIDALGO, TEXAS - The defending NBA Development League champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers outscored the Austin Toros 20-4 on the fast break en route to a 103-81 victory Friday at State Farm Arena in front of a crowd of 4,623.
The Vipers (10-7) are winners of three in a row while the Toros (7-10) are losers of five-straight.
After the Toros scored the first two points of the game, the Vipers went on an 8-0 run while jumping out to a 34-14 lead. Jerel McNeal scored more points than the Toros during the quarter, with 16.
McNeal finished with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-4 shooting from behind the arc.
The Vipers held the Toros under 20 points in the second quarter as well, outscoring them 23-19.
The Vipers led by as many as 30 points in the third quarter and maintained a large lead throughout the rest of the game.
The Vipers hit half of their shots in the game (36-for-72), including 9-of-28 from behind the arc. The Vipers also hit 22-of-29 shots from the foul line.
Jeff Adrien recorded his fifth double-double in eight games with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. adidas Player of the Game Mustafa Shakur scored a game-high 23 points to go with seven assists.
The Toros were led by Marcus Cousin, who scored 13 points with seven rebounds.
The Vipers and Toros play again at State Farm Arena on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Acrodunk will perform at halftime. Fans can take advantage of the State Farm Family 4 Pack, which consists of four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $44. There will be a free pre-game tailgate party in the parking lot, courtesy of Pepper's at Uptown and Budweiser. Doors open at 6:00.
