November 9, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Grrrowl News Release
GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, have announced that MARTIN ST. PIERRE (center) has been selected at the IN GLAS CO ECHL Player of the Week for November 1-7, 2004.
The 21-year-old St. Pierre helped Greenville go 2-1-0, posting back-to-back road wins over East Division opponents Pee Dee and South Carolina. The 5-9 and 180-pound St. Pierre had an assist in the Grrrowl's 2-1 win at Pee Dee on November 2 and posted three assists in a 7-1 win at South Carolina on November 5. St. Pierre scored his first professional goal, had his first multiple-goal game and added an assist for his second straight three-point game in a 7-6 loss to Pee Dee on November 7.
"What a great honor to be selected as player of the week," stated St. Pierre. "I know that the talent in this league is very strong, and the list of past winners is respected throughout all of professional hockey. My teammates have made the transition, from junior hockey to a very tough league, an easy one for me. I am proud to represent Greenville and the Grrrowl in any way, and I am very happy to start my professional career in this fashion."
In his first five games, St. Pierre leads ECHL rookies in assists (7), points (9), power-play assists (3) and power-play points (3). He is tied for the league lead in assists and tied for seventh in the league in scoring. St. Pierre was assigned to Greenville by the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and under contract to the Edmonton Roadrunners of the American Hockey League. St. Pierre is in his first professional season after four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Guelph. In 2003-04, the 5-9 and 180-pound St. Pierre scored 110 points (45g-65a) in 68 regular season games and 35 points (8g-27a) in 22 playoff games, earning the Wayne Gretzky trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the OHL playoffs while also being named OHL Overage Player of the Year.
