Sabourin named ECHL Saver of the Week
November 9, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV â Wheeling Nailers goaltender, Dany Sabourin has been named Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week for the week of November 1-November 7. It is the second consecutive week that Sabourin has been named Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week.
Sabourin started two games last week for the Nailers and won both of them by shutout. On Friday, November 5 the Nailers won their first road game of the season, beating the Dayton Bombers 2-0. Sabourin made 34 saves for his first shutout of the season.
On Saturday, November 6 the Nailers hosted the Reading Royals and again won 2-0. Sabourin made 30 saves for his second consecutive shutout. It was the third consecutive start that Sabourin did not allow a goal. The only goal against the Nailers in that time was scored when Sabourin was on the bench for an extra attacker.
Sabourin also played the third period of Sunday's 5-0 loss to Reading at WesBanco Arena. He made eight saves on eight shots and extended his scoreless streak to 210:02. The ECHL record for consecutive scoreless hockey by a goaltender is 236:03. Sabourin needs 26 more minutes of scoreless hockey to break the ECHL record for longest shutout sequence in league history. The current record is held by Darryl Paquette of Hampton Roads from March 23 through April 2, 1997.
Sabourin becomes just the second goalie to win ECHL Goalie of the Week in consecutive weeks since Greenville's Tyrone Garner in February 2001.
The Nailers are home against the Reading Royals on Thursday, November 11 at 7:00pm and Sunday, November 14 against the Peoria Rivermen at 5:05pm.
Byron Velvick of ABC's reality show The Bachelor will be at WeBanco Arena on Thursday. Jack Daniel's Country Cocktails, McCann Dist., Riesbeck's, Kraft Foods Straub, WOMP FM and First Class Limousine are presenting The Bachelor for an autograph session for all Nailers fans and dinner with one fan.
Sunday the Nailers will give away a trading card set to the first 2,000 fans in attendance courtesy of KoSports and Advance Auto Parts. The first of two trading card sets will feature Brendon Hodge, Mark Kosick, Ben Blais and Nailers coach Pat Bingham.
For tickets to all Nailers home games, call the Nailers ticket office at 234-4625 or toll free at 1-877-NAIL-TIX.
