Nailers' Sabourin Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week
November 9, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
PRINCETON, N.J. - Dany Sabourin of Wheeling is the Reebok Hockey
ECHL Saver of the Week for November 1-7.
Under contract to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, the
24-year-old Sabourin was 2-0-0 with two shutouts and 72 saves and extended
his streak without allowing a goal to 210:02. After 34 saves in a 2-0 win
at Dayton on November 5 and 30 saves in a 2-0 win against Reading on
November 6, Sabourin came off the bench and did not allow a goal in the
final 19:38 of a 5-0 loss to Reading on November 7.
Sabourin becomes only the second goaltender since 1997-98 to win the award
in consecutive weeks, joining Tyrone Garner, who accomplished the feat in
2000-01. Sabourin won the award for October 25-31 after going 2-0-0 with a
goals-against average of 0.46 and a save percentage of .985 while stopping
13 of 14 shooters in the shootout.
Sabourin is 4-1-0 in six games and leads the league in goals-against
average (0.91) and shootout wins (2). He is tied for the league lead in
wins (4) and shutouts (2) and ranks second in save percentage (.970).
The streak began on October 30 following a goal by Toledo with 26 seconds
remaining in regulation. After making two saves in overtime, Sabourin
stopped eight of nine shooters in the Nailers' 2-1 shootout win. He made 32
saves in regulation and one save in overtime before stopping all five
shooters in the shootout to give Wheeling a 2-1 win over Atlantic City on
October 31. The Atlantic City goal was inadvertently scored when Wheeling
knocked the puck into its empty net on a delayed penalty.
The ECHL record is 236:03 by Darryl Paquette of Hampton Roads, who did not
allow a goal from March 23-April 2, 1997, including a league record three
consecutive shutouts March 25-29, 1997. Trenton's Andrew Allen tied the
record for consecutive shutouts with three from February 5-14, 2003 and he
had a scoreless streak of 199:40 from February 5-15, 2003.

pct.) and Todd Ford, Pensacola (2-0-0, 1.50 GAA, .945 save pct.).
