St. Paul Defeats Explorers 7-1

Sioux City - St. Paul scored all of their runs in the first four innings as they defeated the Explorers 7-1 at Lewis and Clark Park on Saturday.

The Saints scored in the first inning on a single by Willie Cabrera and then two more runs in the third on a two-run home run by Brian Burgamy. It was Burgamy's fourth home run of the season, his third against the Explorers.

St. Paul then scored four runs in the fourth inning, putting the game away against the losing pitcher Mike Jefferson, who started his first game for the Explorers.

Sioux City had several opportunities to score, leaving 11 runners on base, twice leaving the bases loaded. The only run the Explorers scored was in the sixth inning on a run scoring double by Peter Barrows. It was Barrow's second hit of the game.

Sam Judah who entered the game with an 11-game hitting streak was held hitless in four at bats. The starting and winning pitcher for St. Paul Anthony Claggett had a career high ten strike outs for the Saints extending his record to 8-4 and lowering his ERA to 3.28, one of the best in the American Association.

The Explorers will close out the series with St. Paul Sunday at Lewis and Clark Park with game time set for 6:05pm.
