Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (57-28) beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (55-31) 4-3 in 11 innings at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Saturday night.
Ryan Khoury led off the bottom of the 11th with a full count walk and stole second base with Jake Kahaulelio at the plate. Kahaulelio then beat out a sacrifice attempt at first base to put runners on the corners with no outs. After John Rodriguez was intentionally walked, C.J. Ziegler lifted a sacrifice fly down the left field line that scored Khoury with the winning run. Khoury had just made a diving catch to rob Todd Jennings with two outs in the top of the inning to keep the game tied.
Josh Stone earned the win in relief for the Wingnuts while Mackenzie King took the loss for the RedHawks.
The Wingnuts took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Ziegler doubled off the top of the center field fence and went to third on a line drive single to left-center from Brent Clevlen. Abel Nieves grounded a hit-and-run single through the left side to drive in Ziegler with the game's first run. Three batters later, Jared McDonald lined a two-out, two-run single down the right field line that scored Clevlen and Nieves.
In the top of the third, Zach Penprase singled through the right side with one out. Penprase took third base on Ronnie Bourquin's single to right and scored on a throwing error by McDonald to cut Wichita's lead to 3-1.
Bourquin drew a one-out walk in the fifth, took second on Nic Jackson's groundout to third, and scored Fargo-Moorhead's second run on an infield single from C.J. Retherford that clipped the top of the third base bag.
Einertson led off the top of the sixth with a home run to left that tied the game at 3-3.
Wichita's bullpen combined for five and two-thirds shutout innings in relief of starter Anthony Capra. Wingnuts' pitchers stranded 18 runners on base in the win.
Capra took a no-decision, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits in five and one-third innings. Capra walked four and struck out eight. Capra has struck out seven or more in six of his last seven starts.
