June 14, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
St. Cloud Rox News Release
Eau Claire, WI - Andrew Mitchel (San Jose State) tossed his best outing of the year, throwing six innings and striking out seven batters as he led the Rox to a 3-1 victory over the (4-13) Eau Claire Express. He gave up one hit and allowed no runs in his third start of the season. The win puts (9-8) St. Cloud over the .500 mark for the first time this season.
For the third game in a row, the Rox struck first as Gus Steiger (South Dakota State) scored Bobby Seymour (Wake Forest) from third base and took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning.
It was the same situation in the fifth inning, when Steiger singled and scored Seymour from third base. It was Steiger's fourth RBI of the season.
The last run from St. Cloud came in the seventh inning, when Ryan Davis (Georgetown) ripped a two-out double off the rightfield wall and scored Steiger from second base.
Once Mitchel was relieved after the sixth inning, John Matthews (Kent State) finished the game for the Rox as he pitched three innings and gave up two hits and struck out two batters. After picking up the win in his first appearance of the year, Matthews clinched his first save of the season. Between the two pitchers, they combined for nine strikeouts and only issued two walks.
St. Cloud will look to sweep Eau Claire tomorrow at Carson Park before visiting Waterloo this weekend. First pitch between the Rox and Express is scheduled for 7:05.
The Rox are in their seventh season of Northwoods League Baseball in 2018. Single game and group tickets for the entire season are on sale now.
