
Squirrels Shutout Baysox to Take Series

Bowie, Md. - The Baysox offense never got going Monday afternoon as they managed just three hits in a 4-0 shutout loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The Baysox now head into the All-Star break seven games behind first-place Richmond having lost seven of their last nine games.
Pitching with the Baysox to stay on regular rest during the MLB All-Star break, Baltimore Orioles pitcher Bud Norris made the start for Bowie. He threw four and one-third innings and allowed three runs on four hit while striking out five and walking seven in the loss.
Richmond struck first in the top of the fourth inning against Norris. Jarrett Parker hit a lead off triple to right field and Eliezer Zambrano came through with a two-out single up the middle to bring Parker home and give the Flying Squirrels a 1-0 lead.
The Flying Squirrels added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Skyler Stromsmoe drew a one-out walk and Matt Duffy was then hit by a pitch. After a double steal, both runners scored on a Mario Lisson double to right field to give Richmond a 3-0 lead. Baysox reliever Jason Gurka then came on to finish the inning.
Richmond extended the lead in the top of the eighth inning against reliever Mychal Givens. Myles Schroder hit a lead off single to left field, stole second base and scored on a Zambrano single to left field. Reliever Julio DePaula then replaced Givens on the mound and surrendered a one-out single from Tyler Graham to put runners at first and second base. Duffy came through with a two-out single to left field to plate Ryan Lollis and give the Flying Squirrels a 5-0 lead
Gurka pitched one and two-thirds innings and did not allow a hit while striking out three batters. Givens pitched one inning and allowed two runs on three hits while walking two batters. DePaula pitched one innings and allowed two hits while striking out two batters. Reliever Oliver Drake pitched the ninth inning and allowed one hit.
Richmond starter Adalberto Mejia picked up the win, throwing scoreless innings and allowing two hits while striking out one.
The Baysox break for the All-Star Game beginning Tuesday, July 15 and return to action Thursday, July 17 in Altoona. The Baysox next home game is Monday, July 21 when the team open a seven-game homestand against the Harrisburg Senators and Altoona Curve.
