READING, Pa. --- Reading Fightins Phils reliever Colton Murray has been named to the Eastern Division roster for this week's 2014 Eastern League All-Star Stop, the Eastern League and the Altoona Curve announced. Murray, who replaces Portland's Noe Ramirez, will join Fightins teammates Carlos Alonso, Albert Cartwright, and Hoby Milner at People's Natural Gas Field in Curve, Pa. on Tuesday and Wednesday for All-Star festivities.
In 19 games with the Fightins this season, Murray has proven to be a formidable arm out of the Fightins bullpen, posting a 2.08 ERA while striking out 32 batters and walking just 12. The Kansas University product has held opponents to a .210 AVG since joining the Reading roster on May 9th. Averaging 8.42 strikeouts per nine innings pitched, Murray didn't surrender an earned run over his first seven appearances with the club.
A right-handed pitcher, Murray was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 13th round of the 2011 draft. The All-Star selection is the first for the 24-year old in his professional career.
The Altoona Curve, Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, will be hosting 2014 Eastern League All-Star Stop presented by UPMC Health Plan on July 15 to July 16 in Curve, Pa. The Eastern and Western Division squads will face off in the Ghostman Games & Hitting Challenge on July 15 before the All-Star Clash on July 16 to wrap up the two days of festivities.
