Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
ERIE, PA - The Binghamton Mets capped the first half of the season with a 13-hit effort, highlighted by three home runs, en route to an 11-4 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Monday night at Jerry Uht Park. Binghamton secured their 18th series win of the season with their third straight victory. The team heads into the All-Star Stop in second place in the Eastern Division, 4.5 games out of first place.
For the second straight game, the B-Mets were forced to play from behind. With runners on the corners in the first inning, Erie catcher Ramon Cabrera slapped a two-out single into left against Gabriel Ynoa, plating Jamie Johnson to give Erie a 1-0 advantage.
The B-Mets responded on their very next swing. Ceciliani started the second inning by sending Jeff Ferrell's first pitch over the right-center field wall. His first home run since June 10 tied the game at one. Binghamton took the lead when Jayce Boyd ripped a two-out RBI double to center in the fourth, plating TJ Rivera from first base.
Binghamton kept up their attack and ended Ferrell's night in the fifth. Dilson Herrera smoked a double off the left-center field wall, bringing home Kyle Johnson from first. Two batters later, Travis Taijeron dumped a single down the left-field line, collecting his 46th RBI of the season.
Following another single from Rivera, Ceciliani hammered the first pitch he saw inside the right-field foul pole for a three-run shot. His second long ball of the game capped Binghamton's five-run frame and forced Ferrell from the game.
The B-Mets kept the offense rolling against the SeaWolves bullpen. Brandon Nimmo went the other way for his fourth Double-A home run, taking Bryan Augenstein over the left-center field wall for a two-run shot in the sixth. Binghamton tacked on two more on three hits against Will Startup in the seventh.
After laboring through the first inning, Ynoa chewed through the next four frames without allowing a run. Ramon Cabrera ended the streak with a home run to lead off the sixth, Ynoa's final frame. Three B-Mets relievers combined to take the game to the finish line, allowing two runs on three hits over 3-1/3 innings.
Ynoa (2-0) allowed two runs on nine hits over 5-2/3 innings to earn his second win in as many starts. Ferrell (6-7) was tagged for seven runs on seven hits over 4-2/3 in his third loss to the B-Mets.
The B-Mets (58-38) enjoy Tuesday and Wednesday off for the Eastern League All-Star break before returning to action on Thursday night at 6:35 PM to start a four-game series at home against the Trenton Thunder.
