Bottom of the 5th inning sends Reading home with a loss

The Fightin Phils (38-55) got a good start out of the game from Adam Loewen but a three-run bottom of the 5th by the New Britain Rock Cats (47-47) gave them a 3-1 lead and wouldn't look back as they eventually won 3-2.

Peter Lavin helped give the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead as he hit a sacrifice fly off Tyler Duffey in the top of the 3rd inning to score Zach Collier. The Rock Cats broke through in the bottom of the 5th inning off Adam Loewen as Mike Kvasnicka hit a RBI double, Kyle Knudson scoring on an error by KC Serna and Eddie Rosario adding a sacrifice fly to score Kvasnicka to take a 3-1 lead.

Zach Collier hit a RBI triple in the top of the 7th inning off Duffey to score Aaron Altherr and bring the Fightins within one run 3-2. The triple for Collier was his second on the season.

Adam Loewen (1-3) earned his third loss of the season as he allowed three runs (two earned) off seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Seth Rosin tossed two scoreless innings in relief as he allowed one walk and recorded two strikeouts.

The Reading Fightin Phils and the rest of the Eastern League are off the next two nights due to the All-Star Break. The Fightin Phils resume play on Thursday evening in Baseballtown as they welcome in the New Britain Rock Cats for a five-game series. First pitch on Thursday night begins at 7:05 pm.
