New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
PORTLAND, Maine - Andy Fermin smacked his third homer of the season, but the Fisher Cats couldn't overcome an early 2-0 deficit in a 6-2 loss to Portland in the final game before the Eastern League All-Star break. Casey Lawrence took the loss as New Hampshire dropped four of five in the series against the first-place Sea Dogs.
Lawrence came into the game having not allowed an earned run since May 23 against Portland, a span covering 30.1 innings. He pitched a perfect first inning, but the Sea Dogs put together a two-run rally with one out in the second, netting a Jonathan Roof single to break up Lawrence's streak.
The Fisher Cats answered in the third with Andy Fermin's third home run of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1. Portland grabbed the run right back in the bottom of the inning with Michael Almanzar's two-out single to center for a 3-1 lead.
Lawrence (L; 6-5) allowed one more run in the fifth before exiting the game. He was tagged for three runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking to as his four-game win streak came to an end.
Both teams scored in the sixth inning as Andy Burns cut Portland's lead to 4-2 with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the inning, Scott Gracey served up a home run to Heiker Meneses homered for the first time in more than a year to extend the lead back to three runs.
Mike Augliera (W; 4-8) won for the first time since May 18 by pitching into the eighth inning. The righty allowed two runs over 7.2 innings, giving up six hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Robby Scott and Noe Ramirez recorded the final four outs as Portland took four of five in the series.
The Fisher Cats will now enjoy the two-day All-Star Break over Tuesday and Wednesday. They'll return home to begin an eight-game homestand after the All-Star Break on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. They'll open the stand with four games against Portland featuring three Atlas Fireworks Shows and a Sunday hat giveaway.
