Spence Loaned to Flames; Shmyr, Manzano Assigned to Chiefs

Johnstown, PA- Johnstown Chiefs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Toby O'Brien announced today, that defenseman Ian Manzano and left wing Ryan Shmyr have been assigned to the team from the Saint John Flames (AHL). Left wing Jason Spence has been loaned to the Flames.

Shmyr, 25, is no stranger to the Chiefs. He began the 2001-2002 season with the Chiefs where he appeared in 29 games, scoring 2 goals and 2 assists (4 PTS) along with 174 PIM. He spent most of last season with the AHL's Rochester Americans where he had 1 goal and 2 assists along with 170 PIM in 34 games. This season with Saint John, the 6'6, 230 LBS native of Fairview, Alberta has a goal, an assist (2 PTS) and 41 PIM in 21 games. Shmyr began this season in training camp with the NHL's Calgary Flames.

Manzano, 25, has played in 7 games this season with the Chiefs posting 5 assists. He was loaned to the Flames on November 1st. In 17 games this season with Saint John, the Dorval, PQ native has a goal and 4 assists (5 PTS).

Spence, 23, has appeared in 23 games for the Chiefs this season scoring 2 goals, 2 assists (4 PTS) and 91 PIM. Spence played in 10 games last season with Saint John, posting one assist and 28 PIM. He will be available for the Flames game Friday night at home against the Albany River Rats.
