GREENSBORO GENERALS

The Generals were defeated by the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies 5-1 last night, snapping a seven game unbeaten streak. Following a scoreless first period, Atlantic City struck for a pair of Jim Henkel goals in the second period. Greensboro cut the deficit in half in the opening minute of the third period on Mark Turner's goal, but Henkel completed his hat trick just 45 seconds later to increase their lead to 3-1. The Boardwalk Bullies added a pair of goals in the final 90 seconds to pull away.

CHARLOTTE CHECKERS

The Checkers beat the Pee Dee Pride 4-3 in overtime last Sunday afternoon. Charlotte's Kevin Caulfield scored the only goal of the first period for a 1-0 advantage. The Pride responded with a pair of goals less than a minute apart to take their first lead of the contest, but the Checkers' Dusty Jamieson tied the score at 2-2 with just nine seconds left in the second period. After each team traded goals in the third period, the Checkers earned the victory on Jamieson's second goal of the night in the final minute of overtime.

RECENT TRANSACTIONS

¨ 12/7 Placed defenseman Kurt Drummond on the 7-day injured list.

¨ 12/11 Goaltender Jamie Hodson was reassigned to the Generals by the St. John's Maple Leafs (AHL).

¨ 12/11 Goaltender Scott Meyer was reassigned to the Checkers by the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL).

¨ The Generals loss last night was just their third one since Halloween.

¨ The Generals were held to under two goals for the first time all season last night

¨ Sam Ftorek not only leads the league with eleven power play goals, he leads all of North American professional hockey.

¨ Mark Turner, Chris Bell, and Vlad Serov all have five points in three games against the Checkers this year.

¨ Charlotte's victory on Sunday snapped a six game winless streak.

¨ The Checkers have allowed three shorthanded goals to the Generals in three games.

¨ Charlotte has allowed 3.90 goals per game, third worst in the league.

¨ Defenseman Kenton Smith has the third worst plus/minus rating in the league at –17.

ABOUT THE GAME

This is the fourth of eight meetings between the Generals and Checkers. Greensboro is already 2-0-1 against Charlotte this year, with all three games played on the road. Should the Generals win just two of the final five games against the Checkers, they will win the Carolina Cup for the first time in the franchise's four year history. The two teams square off next on December 28 at the Greensboro Coliseum. If the Generals win tomorrow, everyone in attendance will get a free personal pan pizza courtesy of Pizza Hut. The Generals homestand closes out on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00, when the Generals host the Columbia Inferno on "Teddy Bear Toss" night. Anyone who comes to the game with a stuffed animal will get a buy one ticket, get one free offer.
