December 12, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Burlington News Release
The Lexington Men O' War will go to battle once again Friday night as they host the Northwest Division leading Toledo Storm. Lexington is on the brink of .500 and with a win Friday night the MOW will hit the plateau. Lexington is coming off a 4-3 shootout win over Dayton on Sunday at Rupp. Toledo is 5-4-1 in their last 10 games including. Lexington will be without the services of Marc-Andre Thinel and Fraser Clair who were both recalled to the Utah Grizzlies earlier this week.
"We had a really good weekend last weekend and we want to build off of that ", said Lexington's Jesse Cook. "It's really important for us to get to .500 and to expand on that this weekend.
If the Men O' War expect to win they will have to do it without two of their top players in Clair and Thinel. Clair was recalled on Monday leaving as the league's top rookie for shots on goal at 90. Clair made his AHL debut with the Grizzlies on Wednesday night with zero points and three shots. Thinel leaves after scoring six points in four games. Lexington is 3-1 since Thinel was sent to the MOW over a week ago. The line of Thinel, Van Burgess and Mark Smith has combined for 18 points in the last four games. With Thinel in the line-up Lexington scored a season-high five goals twice.
" We are always happy for a player to play at the next level. It's selfish for us to want him to stay here to help us, but it's an excellent opportunity for him ", said Men O' War Head Coach Jim Wiley. "We wish him the best of luck ".
Toledo started the season with a 12-1-1 record but the Storm has slowed their pace going 4-4-1 in their last nine. Toledo has flourished at home with a 12-1-1 record in the Toledo Sports Arena, but has struggled with a 4-4-1 record on the road. In the previous two meetings of the season Toledo defeated Lexington 3-0 and 3-2.
" They are a very skilled hockey team and they are pretty deep with regard to their skill", added Wiley. "I am not expecting anything different from them, however I am aware of the movement of players who have been called-up or injured. I still believe they are one of the more skilled teams in the league".
The Lexington Men O' War will host their first ever Holiday Jersey Auction. The silent auction will be held throughout the game with a minimum bid starting at $200.00. Winners will receive their jersey at ice level from the players.
