Orlando Solar Bears News Release

Orlando, FL - Orlando tallied twice on the power play and killed off six penalties to take down the Gwinnett Gladiators 4-1 at the Amway Center on Sunday afternoon. D Cody Wild scored the game-winning goal and added two assists to lead the Solar Bears in the win.

A penalty-filled first period kicked off with a Solar Bears power play just nine seconds into the game, and F Mike Ullrich capitalized for his first goal of the season. Forward C.J. Severyn moved the puck to Ullrich at the top of the right circle and he blasted it past G Chris Rawlings to give Orlando a 1-0 just 23 seconds into the game. Each side had a number of power plays in the opening frame, but it wasn't until late in the period that a second goal was scored. A shot from the point off the stick of D Zachary Yuen deflected to D Cody Wild who banked the rebound off the inside of the pad of Rawlings with 1:10 left in the first.

Less than five minutes into the second period, Gwinnett cut into the Solar Bears lead. A shot from the right point was kicked out by G Christopher Gibson, but F Evan Bloodoff was ready for the rebound and picked the top right corner. The Solar Bears recovered with their second power play goal of the night. F Andrew Johnston fired a pass to D Eric Baier, and the Solar Bears captain ripped a slap shot over the shoulder of Rawlings and putting Orlando ahead 3-1. With 1:47 left in the period, F Zach Harrison collected his second goal of the season with a shot through the five-hole of Rawlings. G Louis Domingue replaced Rawlings in net following the goal as the Solar Bears took the 4-1 lead into the third.

Neither side was able to strike in the third, as the Solar Bears collected the 4-1 win. Goaltender Christopher Gibson stopped 21 of 22 shots to earn his first professional victory.
