Eagles Fall to Steelheads, 5-4, in Scoring Battle

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles were unable to overcome the Idaho Steelheads Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center with a final score of 5-4.

Idaho began this contest on a different note then Friday night. Forward Anthony Nigro got the Steelheads on the board, 1-0, less than four minutes into the first period.

With 15:28 left in the second frame Idaho forward Tommy Grant scored a goal to put the Steelheads up 2-0. The Eagles retaliated less than a minute later with a top shelf goal from forward Luke Fulghum and assisted by forward Kevin Ulanski to drop Idaho's lead, 2-1. Colorado defenseman Kevin Young was able to tie the score at 2-2 with less than five minutes left in the second. The even numbers didn't last long as Nigro got his second goal of the night to bring the score to 3-2.

The Eagles would not let this game go quietly; forward Ray Sawada was finally able to capitalize on a power play, 7:01 into the third frame, to even the tally at 3-3. Exactly two minutes later Steelheads forward Taylor Vause put the puck right past Eagles goaltender Adam Brown to put Idaho ahead, 4-3. Idaho did not waste much time as Vause scored a shorthanded goal, his second of the night to up the Steelheads score, 5-4. 12:52 into the period, Fulghum scored his second goal of the night, as well, to close the gap and finalize the score at 5-4.
