Ortio's 18 save shutout completes Aces sweep in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS - Goaltender Joni Ortio made 18 saves for his second shutout in four games and the Alaska Aces skated away with a 3-0 victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers, before 3,822 fans at Orleans Arena on Sunday.

Ortio helped the Aces improve to 3-1-0 (4 points) on the season, ensured of first place in the Western Conference by the end of Sunday. Nick Mazzolini, Tim Coffman and Jordan Kremyr each scored for the Aces, who won their fourth straight game and outshot the Wranglers 133-47 in the three game sweep.

Mazzolini put the Aces up 1-0 at 4:12 of the opening period on the power play, when he re-directed Evan Trupp's feed past Mitch O'Keefe's glove from the right circle.

Tim Coffman's fourth goal of the year at 13:22 boosted the Aces lead to 2-0. Alaska ended the period with a 16-2 shots edge.

Ortio kept the lead intact with a key save on Geoff Paukovich in the second period, a poke check on Paukovich's partial break.

After a scoreless second, the Aces nudged their way out of a double minor penalty and used a Jordan Kremyr goal, his second of the year, for a 3-0 lead with 4:13 left. Kremyr took a deflection off Dustin Molle's point shot and tucked his attempt around O'Keefe's glove.

O'Keefe took the loss with 40 saves.

NOTES: Scratches for the Aces included Brad Richard, Shawn Skelly, Sean Curry, Eli Zuck, Zach Davies and David Eddy ... Alaska improved to 8-1-3 in the last 12 games against Las Vegas ... Molle fought Alexander Mentink just four seconds into the game ... the Aces went 1-of-6 on the power play.

The Aces return to play this Friday, hosting the Bakersfield Condors at 7:15 p.m. (GCI Channel 1/KFQD) from Sullivan Arena.
