Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

NASHVILLE -- Khris Davis' three-run home run in the seventh inning gave the Nashville Sounds a lead they would not relinquish in a 6-5 triumph over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Monday night at Herschel Greer Stadium. The Isotopes (57-46) have lost four of five games since the all-star break. They fell out of first place for the first time since July 7 as they're now one game behind Round Rock in the PCL's American Southern division.

Stephen Fife made a rehab start for the Los Angeles Dodgers and allowed two runs in four innings. Scooter Gannett singled home a run in the third inning and Josh Prince later scored in that inning on a Fife wild pitch. Fife allowed four hits (two were bloopers and one was an infield single), walked one and struck out six.

Matt Palmer, the regularly scheduled starting pitcher, entered in the fifth inning. Davis, the son of a Dodgers scout, singled home a run in the fifth inning to give him four RBIs in the game.

The Isotopes took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Chili Buss singled to center, swiped his 14th base of the season, and scored on Justin Sellers' RBI double off Nashville starter Chris Narveson. Sellers was also 3-for-3 with six RBIs against Narveson when the teams met back on July 9th.

But after that Sellers double, Narveson retired the next 14 batters in a row.

In the seventh, Alex Castellanos broke the ice with a double, and then Narveson walked Rusty Ryal and Buss to load the bases. Reliever Johnnie Lowe retired Sellers on a soft popup to short, but Brian Barden and John Baker found holes in the outfield with RBI singles to tie the game at 3-3. Two batters later, Dee Gordon drew a bases-loaded walk from Travis Webb to give the Topes a 4-3 lead.

The Sounds answered immediately in the bottom of the seventh. Gennett and Diaz singled to start the frame, then after Palmer struck out Hunter Morris, Davis crushed an 0-1 pitch for the go-ahead home run. It was his 13th home run of the season.

Castellanos got the Topes within a run with a solo home run in the eighth off Tim Dillard. The Topes also had the tying run on base in the eighth and ninth inning, but Sounds closer Rob Wooten recorded the final four outs of the game for his 20th save.

Game two of the four-game series is Tuesday. Jonathan Sanchez starts for the Isotopes and R.J. Seidel goes for the Sounds. First pitch is at 6:05 pm Mountain Time and all the action can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
