Round Rock Express News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - In the first of eight straight games against the Memphis Redbirds (49-54), starter Ryan Feierabend fired 7.0 shutout innings as the Round Rock Express (58-45) took the series opener 9-0 Monday night at AutoZone Park.
The southpaw scattered six hits without allowing an extra-base knock and walked just one en route to his fifth victory of the season and fourth straight quality start.
Spark plug shortstop Leury Garcia led the game off with a single and moved to third two batters later before scoring on designated hitter Manny Ramirez's RBI ground out, spotting Feierabend a run before the left-hander stepped on the mound.
The one-run advantage held until the sixth inning when the Round Rock offense gave the pitching staff some breathing room. Garcia began the inning with a base hit and came around to score on a RBI single off the bat of Ramirez for the game's second run. The Express added runs when third baseman Yangervis Solarte scored on a wild pitch while right fielder Jared Hoying and first baseman Chris McGuiness roped RBI singles to give the E-Train a 5-0 lead.
Long ball played a part of the offense in the eighth as Hoying slammed a solo shot off Memphis reliever Jorge Rondon over the right field wall for the sixth run.
The Round Rock offense wasn't finished as the bats broke through for three more in the ninth. The Express loaded the bases with the first three batters of the frame after Garcia and Solarte sandwiched second baseman Greg Miclat's walked with a pair of singles. Ramirez knocked in his third run of the night with a single before center fielder Jim Adduci plated the eighth run with a ground out. The final score of the evening came across the plate when Butler brought Solarte home with a single for the 9-0 victory.
Feierabend exited after seven strong innings, giving way to side-winder Johan Yan out of the bullpen. Yan combined with right-hander Ryan Rodebaugh for two perfect innings of relief to finish off the game. Feierabend improved to 5-3 while Memphis starter Scott McGregor (4-6) suffered his sixth loss after being tagged for five runs (two earned) through 5.2 innings.
The Express continues a four-game road trip against the RedBirds tomorrow night at 7:02 p.m. Right-hander Josh Lindblom (7-1, 2.48 ERA) takes the mound for Round Rock while Memphis sends Nick Greenwood (2-3, 5.82 ERA) to the hill.
