Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Albuquerque, NM - Quintin Berry drove in the game-winning run as Omaha coughed up a late lead and then rallied to beat Albuquerque, 8-6, Sunday night in their final regular season meeting at Isotopes Park. The Storm Chasers improved to 47-54 and moved to within 1 1/2 games of Iowa and Memphis in the American Conference North Division. Omaha took three out of four in both road sets in Albuquerque to claim the season series 10-6.
Sean White opened the ninth on the hill for the Isotopes in a 6-6 game and promptly retired the first two hitters he faced before Paulo Orlando singled and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Berry then laced a base hit the opposite way to left field to drive in Orlando with the decisive run. Berry moved to second base on the throw home and scored an insurance marker when Mitch Canham followed with a double. Michael Mariot was called on to protect the lead in bottom of the ninth and gave up a one-out triple to Alex Castellanos but struck out Chili Buss and Justin Sellers to end the game and record his first save since June 10.
The hosts got on the board first in the second inning on run-producing hits by Sellers and Brian Barden and extended the lead to three in the third inning with Elian Herrera's leadoff long ball. Omaha answered with a pair of runs in the fourth on an Anthony Seratelli homer, his 10th of the season and second in as many days, and a two-out RBI hit by Berry that plated Max Ramirez to shave the deficit to a run.
Christian Colon walked with one out in the fifth, moved to third on a Seratelli single and scored to tie the game on a double by Ben Broussard that also advanced Seratelli to third. After Ramirez struck out, Pedro Ciriaco laced a double down the left field line that scored both runners to put Omaha in front for the first time at 5-3 and knocked Albuquerque starter Angel Castro out of the game after he had yielded nine hits, walked three and fanned a pair. The visitors would add their final run in the four-run surge on an infield hit by Berry that scored Ciriaco from second base.
Omaha starter Chris Dwyer gave up three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out a pair over six innings and gave way in the seventh to fellow southpaw Buddy Baumann, who issued back-to-back two-out walks to load the bases for Buss, who singled to drive in a pair to trim the lead to 6-5. Castellanos and Buss each moved up a base on a Berry throwing error on the play that forced an intentional pass to Sellers to reload the bases and chase Baumann from the game. Francisley Bueno took over and walked Ian Stewart to force in the tying run before getting Barden to bounce into a force play to end the inning.
Omaha will send left-hander Danny Duffy to the hill in Monday's series opener against OKC southpaw Brett Oberholtzer. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
