Omaha Totals 3 Hits, 13 Strikeouts in 6-1 Loss

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (47-55) lost out on an opportunity to pull to within 0.5 games of the American Northern Division lead with Iowa and Memphis losing on the night, managing only three hits in a 6-1 series-opening loss to the Oklahoma City RedHawks (55-47). Omaha has been held to a season-low of three hits three times in 2013, twice to the RedHawks.
The Storm Chasers had only one hit and two total baserunners in the first seven innings of the game, as Oklahoma City starter Brett Oberholtzer tossed six innings while striking out nine in his third win against Omaha in as many starts. Oberholtzer has allowed only three earned runs in his 19.2 innings against the Storm Chasers, while striking out 20 in those three outings. The nine strikeouts against Omaha was the most any opposing pitcher has totaled this season, and the Chasers offense tied a season-high with 13 strikeouts.
The Omaha bullpen gave up five runs over the final four innings to break open a 1-1 tie, but starter Everett Teaford allowed only one run in his five innings of work while fanning seven. Teaford has now gone 18 consecutive starts without taking the loss for the Storm Chasers dating back to April of the 2011 season. During that stretch of starts, the lefty has given up only 15 earned runs in 88.1 innings. Teaford has struck out 20 in his last three outings for Omaha, the most in any three-game stretch in his Triple-A career.
Irving Falu had two of the three hits for the Chasers and drove in their lone run in the third on a double, moving him in to sole possession of tenth place in team history with 77 doubles in his 542-game career with Omaha. Falu is now the only player in team history to rank in the top-ten in games played, at-bats, hits, runs, doubles, triples and stolen bases. He is also only four RBI from tenth place in team history as he currently sits at 205, with his teammate earlier this season David Lough at 209.
The Storm Chasers will play two games tomorrow against the RedHawks, the completion of the June 8th suspended game and a seven-inning game to follow. Left-hander Danny Duffy (2-0, 5.06) will face off with right-hander Asher Wojciechowski (5-4, 2.95) in the suspended game starting in the bottom of the first, and right-hander Brian Sanches (6-2, 3.68) and righty Bobby Doran (0-0, 5.79) will start the second game of the day. The modified doubleheader kicks off at 4:05 p.m.
