Sound Tigers Split Four Game Week

The Sound Tigers completed sweeps of their two-game season series with the Worcester IceCats and Portland Pirates with a 2-0 win over Worcester at home Tuesday and a 2-1 overtime win over Portland at home Wednesday. They then lost 3-0 on the road to the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday and 2-1 at home to the Norfolk Admirals Saturday. The Sound Tigers finished last week in first place in the East Division with 71 points and a 30-15-8-3 record, including 14-7-5-1 at home and 16-8-3-2 on the road.

TUE FEB 17th vs. WOR, 2-0 W: For the third time in as many home games, the Sound Tigers played scoreless into the third period re-setting the season mark for the latest first goal in a contest involving them. RYAN KRAFT broke the deadlock with a shorthanded goal, the team's third in the last three games, with 7:09 left to play and added an empty-netter; DIETER KOCHAN made 21 saves for his fourth shutout of the season; and ROB COLLINS had two assists. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 6 on the power play while Worcester was 0 for 7 and had a 21-19 shots on goal advantage.

WED FEB 18th vs. POR, 2-1 OTW: JEFF HAMILTON temporarily moved into a tie for the AHL goal-scoring lead when he opened the scoring with his 29th marker of the season late in the first period. FRANCOIS METHOT tied the game with 7:04 left in regulation, but DEREK BEKAR notched the game-winner with 2:01 left in overtime. WADE DUBIELEWICZ made 28 saves as the Sound Tigers won despite being outshot 29-16. They were 0 for 1 on the power play while Portland was 0 for 2 as only three minor penalties were called in the entire game.

FRI FEB 20th at HAR, 3-0 L: Hartford did all of the scoring in the first 18:39 of play receiving goals from KEN GERNANDER, PAUL HEALEY and JEFF HEEREMA. Wolf Pack Goaltender JASON LaBARBERA made 31 saves for his League single-season-record 11th shutout; a mark he first broke just last week. The Sound Tigers lost despite a 31-24 shots on goal advantage. They were 0 for 5 on the power play while Hartford was 1 for 5.

SAT FEB 21st vs. NOR, 2-1 L: YORICK TREILLE gave Norfolk a 1-0 lead with a four-on-four goal early in the first period, but MIKE SOUZA, in his first game back with the Sound Tigers, tied the score late in the opening frame with a power-play goal. However, BLAKE BELLEFEUILLE notched a goal on the advantage mid-way through the third period to give the Admirals the win. WADE DUBIELEWICZ had his two-game win streak and five-game unbeaten streak, 3-0-2, snapped. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 7 on the power play while Norfolk was 1 for 6 and had a 24-20 shots on goal advantage.

SOUND TIGERS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – RW/C MARTIN KARIYA

Kariya returned from an eight-game absence with a thumb injury and had assists in his first two games back in the lineup last Tuesday and Wednesday, setting up the overtime winner by DEREK BEKAR in the second game. He added a third helper Saturday. Kariya has five goals, 12 assists and 17 points in 48 games with the Sound Tigers this season.

THIS WEEK – Sound Tigers To Visit Hartford & Albany Then Open Eight Game Homestand The Sound Tigers will visit Hartford Wednesday and the Albany River Rats Friday. They will then open an eight-game homestand when they host the Providence Bruins Saturday.

WED FEB 25th at HAR, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the seventh of ten meetings of the teams, the fourth of five in Hartford, this regular season. The Sound Tigers are 15-9-2 all-time, 3-2-1 with an overtime loss this season, versus the Wolf Pack who just overtook them for first place in the Eastern Conference with 72 points and a 31-16-9-1 record, including 16-7-5-0 at home and 6-0-1 in the last seven games. The Atlantic Division leading Wolf Pack are off until Wednesday. G JASON LaBARBERA notched his AHL single-season-record 12th shutout, and the team's League single-season-record 15th, with a 2-0 home win over Worcester this past Saturday.

FRI FEB 27th at ALB, 7 p.m.: This will be the sixth of eight meetings of the teams, the second of three in Albany, this regular season. The River Rats also "hosted" the Sound Tigers at the Continental Airlines Arena in the New Jersey Meadowlands; home of their NHL affiliate, the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils; on January 22nd. The Sound Tigers are 12-4-5 all-time, 1-1-3 this season losing the game in New Jersey, versus Albany who begins this week in seventh place in the East Division with 46 points and a 15-25-10-6 record, including 9-13-5-2 at home. The River Rats will visit the Manitoba Moose tomorrow and Wednesday to finish a four-game road trip.

SAT FEB 28th vs. PRO, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the third of four meetings, the first of two in Bridgeport, this regular season. The Sound Tigers are 1-6-3 all-time, 0-1-1 with an overtime loss this season, versus Providence who begins this week in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 59 points 23-20-10-3 record, including 10-11-6-0 on the road. The "P-Bruins", who also begin this week on a four-game winless streak at 0-3-0-1, will visit the Lowell Lock Monsters Thursday.
