SOUND TIGERS WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT

FREDERIC CLOUTIER

Goaltender - Catches: Right

Height: 6'0'' Weight: 185 lbs

Born: May 14, 1981 in Saint-Honore, Quebec

Signed as a free agent with the Sound Tigers this past summer

How did you become a goalie?

My uncle Gilles Gratton played goal, and I loved his tiger-faced mask; as soon as I saw that mask, I wanted to be a goalie.

Why is Freddy Kruger on your mask?

Some teammates nicknamed me after him because of my first name.

What about the initials AC, FG and MM on your mask?

AC and FG are for my grandfathers, Alcide Cloutier and Fernand Gratton. MM is for Melanie Mallet, whose dad was a big fan of my junior team. Unfortunately, Melanie died of cancer, so I put her initials on my mask and whenever I have a bad game or think things are going poorly, it reminds me of what is really important.

What do you want to do after your playing career?

Be a vet. I grew up on a farm and when I was a kid if any of the animals were sick or hurt, I'd watch the vet tend to them and then take his instructions to care for them after he was gone.

You were supposed to play in Mississippi this year and you have played in Pensacola, Louisiana and Texas; what was it like to see the hurricanes hit those areas?

You don't want that to happen to anyone, but you realize it more when it happens to people you know. I have friends in Louisiana who took me in when I first played pro, and I saw all the damage when I went to Pensacola at the start of last season. It makes you realize how lucky you are and that your problems are nothing compared to other people.
