SOUND TIGERS WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT
WYATT SMITH
Center - Shoots: Left
Height: 5'11" Weight: 200 lbs
Born: February 13, 1977 - Thief River Falls, MN
Signed with the Islanders on August 1, 2005
On notching assists in his first three games with the team, "I felt rusty after missing the first two weeks, and it showed, so it was nice to get those points, but I'd trade any one of them for a few wins!"
On playing for the Islanders and Sound Tigers, "It's always different when you come to a new organization, but it's nice to have that proximity where everything is close between the Islanders and us. And, we have a good group of guys here, so it's been fun so far."
You played in Phoenix and Carolina, what was it like in those not-so-traditional hockey markets? "That weather is pretty nice especially when you get into the middle of winter, but this is little bit more of a real hockey environment."
What was it like winning the Calder Cup with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2004? "It's something I'll never forget. I talked to Tony Hrkac who has won the Stanley Cup and the Calder Cup, and he said that team in Milwaukee was unique because of how everybody got along and we came together as a team."
Tell us something about yourself, "I'm a pretty simple guy; I might even be a bit of a couch potato. I played college hockey in Minnesota and go back there every summer to visit family and friends."
