Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND, OH - Jamie Holden turned aside 35 Hershey shots on Tuesday night to earn his first AHL win in a 3-2 shootout decision. Josh Hennessy scored the game-winner in the Barons first shootout game of the year.
The Hershey Bears took five penalties in the opening twenty minutes of play, but the Barons couldn't convert on the power play through a scoreless opening period. Frederic Cassivi made his ninth appearance for the Bears and kicked away all six shots from the Barons. Holden was between the pipes for the Barons in his second appearance of the year and handled all eight shots from Hershey.
The second period saw both teams trading goals and skating to a 1-1 tie after forty minutes of action. Mike Iggulden scored the game's first tally, his third of the year for the Barons, on a helper from Shane Joseph with 12:13 expired. Hershey's Captain, Boyd Kane, followed Iggulden's goal with the game tying score just more than five minutes later.
Patrick Rissmiller gave the Barons a 2-1 lead with his third goal of the season at 8:33 of the third period chopping a rebound over a sprawled out Cassivi. Steve Bernier and Josh Prudden assisted on Rissmiller's goal. But, after failing to score on their first seven power play chances, the Bears converted on their eighth attempt to tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime. Boyd Gordon slapped home a rebound goal past Holden with just over six minutes left in regulation time.
Hershey was awarded another power play in overtime but could not score as the two teams finished the extra session tied and would need a shootout period to decide the winner. Cleveland's Hennessy scored the only breakaway to win the game for the Barons 3-2 and snap a two-game losing streak.
Friday night the Barons travel to Rochester for a 7:30pm game. Then on Sunday evening at five O'clock the Barons return to home ice where they'll host the Syracuse Crunch at 5pm. Tickets for all regular season games are on sale now and group discounted tickets are available by calling the Barons at 216-420-0000.
