
Shannon named RBK Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month

PORTLAND, ME- The American Hockey League announced today that Portland Pirates center Ryan Shannon has been named the RBK Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month for October. Shannon recorded a point in each of Portland's eight games in October, totaling seven goals and five assists for 12 points to lead the Pirates into first place in the Atlantic Division.
Shannon opened the season by scoring both Portland goals in a 4-2 loss to Springfield on Oct. 8. He picked up two power-play goals in a 4-1 victory at Bridgeport on Oct. 22, and scored twice more in a 5-2 win over defending Calder Cup champion Philadelphia on Oct. 28. Through October, Shannon leads all AHL rookies in points, and ranks first on the Pirates in goals and points and is tied for second with a plus/minus rating of plus-7.
In recognition of his achievement, Shannon will be presented with an etche! d crystal award prior to an upcoming Pirates home game.
A native of Darien, Conn., the 22-year-old Shannon signed with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Apr. 3, 2005, after a stellar four-year career at Boston College. As captain of the Eagles in 2004-05, Shannon was a First Team ECAC all-conference selection, and he represented the United States at the 2003 World Junior Championships in Nova Scotia.
