HARTFORD, Conn. - West Haven native Joe Pereira netted the eventual game-winning goal with 10:44 left in regulation and Nathan Lawson made 30 saves as the Sound Tigers defeated the Connecticut Whale 4-3 at the XL Center in Hartford. The Sound Tigers earn a win in their final road contest and six of their last seven away from Webster Bank Arena and are now 29-39-4-7. The Whale fall to 40-31-2-6.

The Sound Tigers jumped in front at 10:58 of the first period. Following a delay of game penalty on Blake Parlett, Tyler McNeely's centering feed from the right faceoff circle deflected off defenseman Stu Bickel's left skate and past Cameron to make the score 1-0. Jeremy Colliton received the secondary assist on the play, tying him with Rob Collins for the Sound Tigers franchise mark of 110 career assists. Just 2:02 later, Joe Pereira's hard work on the forecheck gave the Sound Tigers a two-goal lead. Pereira was able to take the puck away from the Whale defense along the left side of their zone despite his stick being held, and was able to slide the puck to Rob Hisey. The Oakville, Ont. native roofed the puck over Cameron Talbot's left shoulder for his 15th goal of the season as the Sound Tigers led 2-0. Sound Tigers netminder Nathan Lawson was sharp early on and stopped all 10 shots he faced and the Sound Tigers carried their two-goal advantage to the second period.

The Whale came back to cut their two-goal deficit in half just 1:54 into the period. Kelsey Tessier freed the puck from the Sound Tigers defense behind their net and found Andrew Yogan in front to fire the puck past Lawson for his first AHL goal in his professional debut. The Sound Tigers had four power-play chances in the second period and Colliton capitalized at 12:28 of the period. Colliton fired a rebound off the crossbar and McNeely was able to move the puck back to Colliton after being hit from behind by Jared Nightingale. Colliton didn't miss on his second attempt and scored his 17th goal of the season, putting the Sound Tigers up 3-1 after two periods of play.

Pereira pushed the Sound Tigers lead to three with his second professional goal at 9:16 of the third to give the Sound Tigers a 4-1 lead. Nathan Lawson was on his game for the first two periods and faced an onslaught from the Whale in the third. Yogan found himself in the right place at the right time for his second goal of the night, deflecting the puck past Lawson at 12:25. The Whale ended up on the power play less than two minutes later as Kris Newbury one-timed a feed from Blake Parlett and the Sound Tigers saw their three-goal lead quickly reducted to one with six minutes left in regulation. However, Lawson was the key down the stretch as the veteran netminder made key saves as the Whale outshot the Sound Tigers 13-1 in the third, but the Sound Tigers were victorious by a 4-3 score.

The Sound Tigers close out their 2010-11 10th Anniversary Season tomorrow afternoon when they host the Albany Devils at 3 p.m.
