
Moose Announce Year-End Award Winners

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, were pleased to announce the winners of their 15th annual year-end awards prior to their game versus the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday, April 9th, 2011 at MTS Centre.
Moose goaltender Eddie Lack was awarded a team-record four awards on the night, including the Insta-Frame Galleries Most Valuable Player Award for the 2010-11 season. Lack, 23, has appeared in a team rookie goaltending record 53 games this season where he has compiled a 28-21-4 record. The native Norrtalje, Sweden is ranked ninth amongst AHL goalies with a 2.26 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. He is second in the league in saves and minute played. Lack was not only named the Moose winner of the StaffMax Staffing & Recruiting Rookie of the Year, but he was also named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and was the league's Goalie of the Month for December. Lack was also awarded the 3-Stars Award after being named a star of the game 20 times this season - with 11 of those being first-star honours. He was also crowned with the Re/Max Most Popular Player Award, receiving 37 per cent of the vote from participating fans.
Manitoba Moose forward Sergei Shirokov received the TFI Financial Services Leading Scorer Award in his second AHL season. So far, the native of Moscow, Russia, is the team leader in scoring with 58 points. He leads the Moose in goals (22), assists (36), as well as power play goals (8), shots (181) and is tied for the team lead in power play scoring (17 points) and game-winning goals (5). The 25-year old winger is currently on a six-game scoring streak with two goals and six assists entering tonight's final regular season game. Earlier this season, Shirokov set a new franchise record for consecutive games with a point when he recorded 10 goals and five assists over 12 games between Dec. 17/10 and Jan. 15/11.
Moose captain Nolan Baumgartner was the winner of the Cargill-Julian Klymkiw Community Service Award this season for his work off the ice which included a visit to Lord Roberts Elementary School as part of the Respond to Reading program. Garth Murray, who joined the Moose from the Victoria Salmon Kings in December, was named the winner of the Manitoba Blue Cross Unsung Hero Award and the Toyota "Never Quits" Hardest Working Player Award.
Another year-end award winner was defenseman Mark Flood who was named the winner of the Payworks Best Defenceman Award. In his first season with the Moose, the Charlottetown, PEI native leads the team's rearguards in scoring with 40 points (11g, 29a) and is third on the team in overall scoring. He is also tied for the team lead in power play scoring with 17 points (5g, 12a).
Representatives from the Moose corporate partners were on hand for the pre-game ceremonies to present the award winners with their trophies.
