Rampage Fall To Wolves 5-3

CHICAGO - The San Antonio Rampage scored twice in the third period but dropped a 5-3 decision to the Chicago Wolves on Saturday night at Allstate Arena in their last road contest of the 2010-11 season. The Rampage own a 39-33-4-3 record good for 85 points and will host their rival Texas Stars tomorrow night at 4:30 p.m. to close out the season at home.

Rampage right wing Matt Watkins tallied one goal and one assist while center Bracken Kearns notched two assists on the night. In addition, Rampage rookie Brandon Gormley posted his first professional goal.

San Antonio finishes the season with a 4-2-0-0 advantage over the Wolves in the season series, which marks the first time in franchise history that the Rampage have had a winning record against Chicago.

After a scoreless first period, the Rampage were the first to jump on the board as defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson lit the lamp 11:03 after the initial puck drop. Kearns passed from behind the net to Watkins at the right faceoff circle who in turn sent a centering feed to Ekman-Larsson where he fired a shot low stick side of Wolves goaltender Edward Pasquale for a 1-0 lead.

Chicago responded by scoring four unanswered goals in a span of 4:08 to claim a 4-1 lead over San Antonio.

The Wolves netted the equalizer at the 11:52 mark of the second period on Sergio Somma's first professional goal as he backhanded a shot from the slot past Rampage netminder Joe Fallon for a 1-1 score.

Chicago took a 2-1 lead after Frederik Pettersson passed across the crease to center Andre Deveaux at the left goal post, who fired a shot top shelf over Fallon's right shoulder 13:45 into the middle stanza.

The Wolves continued with their scoring spree when Spencer Machacek sent a centering feed to Ryan Garbutt, who was streaking down the middle, and redirected the puck into the lower right corner of the net for a 3-1 lead.

Chicago extended their lead to 4-1 when Machacek scored at the 16:00 mark of the middle stanza for his second point of the night. Fallon left the crease to recover a loose puck but turned it over behind the net as Machacek gained possession and wrapped around the left post to slide the puck into the open net.

The Wolves pushed their lead to 5-1 as leading scorer Darren Haydar picked up the rebound off Mark Matheson's shot from the left point and tapped it in behind Fallon 3:29 into the third period.

The Rampage cut the Wolves lead to 5-2 after Kearns and Garrett Stafford assisted on Watkins' shot from the slot that went behind Pasquale and into the back of the net at the 10:24 mark of the final period.

San Antonio defenseman Gormley netted his first goal 11:50 into the third period after his shot went past the outstretched blocker of Pasquale to finalize the Wolves victory at 5-3. Randy Robitaille and Dane Byers provided the assists.

Fallon made 20 saves on 25 Wolves shot attempts while Pasquale stopped 20 of 23 shots on net.

The Rampage will give away more than $20,000 in prizes at Fan Appreciation Night tomorrow evening to conclude the 2010-11 season at the AT&T Center.
