Bridgeport Islanders News Release

PROVIDENCE, RI - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 4-0 on the road to the Providence Bruins Friday as goaltender Hannu Toivonen made 26 saves for his fourth shutout of the season.

After a scoreless first period in which Sound Tigers goaltender Wade Dubielewicz looked good with 14 saves, Providence took the lead with a pair of second-period goals.

Patrice Bergeron, who was the most valuable player of the recently-completed World Junior Championship that was won by Canada, scored his 12th goal of the season off assists from Andy Hilbert and Milan Jurcina at the 5:50 mark to make it 1-0. Brad Boyes doubled the lead to 2-0 with his 15th marker of the year off an assist from Dan LaCouture with 2:21 left in the middle frame. LaCouture intercepted an outlet pass with Providence on the penalty kill and set up Boyes for just the second shorthanded goal given up by the Sound Tigers this season.

The Bruins took 21 seconds of a power play with them into the third period and capitalized on the advantage just 18 seconds in as Boyes scored his second goal of the game off assists from Kevin Dallman and Keith Aucoin to make it 3-0. Providence finished the scoring at 4-0 with 6:38 left to play as David Gove drove hard to the net for his seventh tally of the season off assists from Dana Lattery and Dallman.

Boyes was the first star of the game, Toivonen the second and LaCouture the third. Providence was 1 for 2 on the power play, 2 for 2 on the penalty kill and had a 30-26 shots on goal advantage. Dubielewicz matched Toivonen with a 26-save effort.

The Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of seven straight road games by visiting the Hartford Wolf Pack tomorrow at 7:35 p.m. and the Lowell Lock Monsters Sunday at 4 p.m. All Sound Tigers games are web cast live at www.soundtigers.com. Most games, including Sunday's, are also broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM.
