Portland Pirates News Release

PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Pirates, Maine's WB and Maine's UPN concluded their campaign this week to donate hats and gloves to local children as part of "Ticket Treasure" with a total of 357 hats, 417 pairs of gloves, four scarves, two pairs of booties, one doll and one teddy bear being donated to the United Way of Greater Portland to benefit area kids and families.

To encourage donations, anyone who brought a new hat or pair of gloves to either the Civic Center on game nights or the Pirates retail store received two free tickets to an upcoming Pirates home game.

"We are thrilled to have been able to work with WPXT and WPME to collect hats and gloves for the United Way of Greater Portland. The promotion was a big hit with our fans and we want to thank everyone for their generous donations to the Ticket Treasure campaign and we look forward to doing it again next season," said the Pirates Managing Owner/CEO Brian Petrovek.

"It's a great cause with two quality organizations and we're happy to get the message out," said John Marshall, Creative Services Director at Maine's WB and Maine's UPN. "Thinking of the three to four hundred kids who'll be staying warmer this winter makes me proud to have been involved. Sign us up for next year and thanks for the chance to help."

The Pirates, WB and UPN have also partnered on a second promotional campaign called "Be Nice Off The Ice" which will continue to run through the rest of the season. This anti-violence message public service announcement features Pirates defenseman and crowd favorite Louis Robitaille. Known for his aggressive, intense play as a member of the Portland Pirates, Louis encourages kids to take a different approach on the playground. As he puts it, "...play hard in the game. Be nice off the ice." Targeting the growing problem of bullies in local schools, this public service announcement is co-sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maine.
