Manitoba Moose News Release

Jimmy Roy scored a natural hat trick and Alex Auld stopped 21 shots to lead the Moose to a 3-0 win over the San Antonio Rampage Thursday night.

The Moose came flying out of the gate, firing plenty of shots at San Antonio starting netminder Patrick DesRochers.

The pressure eventually paid off as for the second time in as many games, Jimmy Roy scored for the Moose. Peter Sarno picked up the puck on the end boards and was able to get a pass out to Roy in the right faceoff circle. Roy ripped it just past the inside post by Patrick DesRochers, giving the Moose a 1-0 lead. The goal came with less than five minutes to play in the opening period.

After the first period, the Moose had the game well in hand, doubling up the Rampage in shots 10-5. However, they only had a one-goal lead to show for it.

In a turn of events, San Antonio had the decided advantage in the second period. The Moose started off the period on the wrong foot, with a hooking penalty going to Tomas Mojzis 43 seconds in.

The majority of play in the middle frame was held in the Moose zone but Alex Auld was steady in preserving Manitoba's one-goal advantage.

Shot count in the second was 11-5 in favour of the Rampage but with a scoreless period, the Moose remained out on top.

Jay Bouwmeester took an early penalty in the third, giving Manitoba its second powerplay of the night but the visitors were unable to get set in the San Anotnio zone long enough to create a dangerous scoring opportunity.

Just before the midway point of the final frame, Jimmy Roy scored his second of the game to increase Manitoba's lead to 2-0. Justin Morrison and Nathan Smith drew assists on the play, as the Roy-Morrison-Smith checking line continued its hot stretch. Roy stickhandled across the slot after receiving a pass from Morrison and backhanded it over DesRochers.

Shortly after the Moose goal, Rob Globke got around Kevin Bieksa and skated in on Auld but had the puck poked away at him before he could make a move.

Three minutes after his second goal, Jimmy Roy completed the natural hat trick as he snapped a shot that was tipped past DesRochers. Nathan Smith was originally thought to have tipped the shot, but it was credited to Roy in the end.
