Sound Tigers Set Franchise Home Unbeaten Mark

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, shutout the Providence Bruins 1-0 at home Wednesday. The win was their first-ever versus the "P-Bruins" and improved their unbeaten streak to nine games at 6-0-3. It also improved their home-ice, unbeaten streak to 11 games at 9-0-2 establishing a new franchise record.

Trent Hunter scored a five-on-three, power-play goal, his team-leading 12th goal and 25th point of the season, breaking a scoreless tie 10:58 into the second period on assists from Jeff Hamilton and Sven Butenschon. The goal stood up for the next 29:02 as the game winner.

Both goaltenders played a solid game as Rick DiPietro stopped all 30 shots he faced in the Sound Tigers' net upping his unbeaten streak to 14 games at 9-0-5 with his third shutout of the season while Andrew Raycroft made 34 saves in a losing effort for Providence. DiPietro was the number one star of the game, Hunter number two and Raycroft number three.

The Sound Tigers were 1 for 5 on the power play, 4 for 4 on the penalty kill and outshot Providence 35-30.

The Sound will host the Manitoba Moose Friday at 7:35 p.m. and the Philadelphia Phantoms Saturday at 7:05 p.m. before playing six consecutive road games.
