HOUSTON, TX - The Grand Rapids Griffins (12-5-4-2) finished their five-game road trip with a 3-2 loss to the league-leading Houston Aeros (16-5-1-0) at the Compaq Center on Wednesday night.

After a scoreless first period, Tomas Kopecky got the Griffins on the board with a hard wrist shot at 3:55 of the second period from Patrick Boileau.

Mark Mowers extended the Griffins' lead to 2-0 at 7:32 of the second period when he slammed home a pass from Kopecky, capping a well-executed three-on-two breakaway. Michel Picard picked up an assist on the play.

The Aeros finally beat Marc Lamothe with a goal by Mark Cullen at 19:03 of the second period. Lamothe had kept the Aeros off the board for 105:23, a streak spanning back to the 2-2 tie in Houston on Nov. 7. Marc Cavosie and Curtis Murphy picked up assists.

Murphy tied the game at 2-2 at 7:15 of the third period from Travis Roche and Hnat Domenichelli.

Roche buried the game-winning goal with a power play marker at 15:12 of the third from Jeremy Stevenson and Domenichelli.

Lamothe stopped 34 of 37 in a losing effort, while Dieter Kochan turned away 18 of 20 for the win.

The Griffins return to Van Andel Arena for back-to-back home games against the Utah Grizzlies on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m.
