Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, erased a 2-0 deficit and beat the Hartford Wolf Pack 3-2 in overtime at home Friday. It was the Sound Tigers' fourth straight win and third in a row at home.

The Wolf Pack took a 1-0 lead on Ken Gernander's 14th goal of the season, assisted by Patrick Aufiero and Roman Lyashenko, at 4:17 of the first period. Garth Murray then put the Wolf Pack up 2-0 1:37 later with his fifth marker of the year on an assist from John Tripp.

The Sound Tigers appeared to have pulled to within 2-1 on a power-play goal by Jeremy Adduono with 1:00 left in the first period, but Referee Dan O'Rourke ruled the puck was kicked into the net. So, the score remained 2-0 Hartford through the end of the first period.

Adduono eventually cut the score to 2-1 with a power-play goal, his seventh goal of the season, with just :58.3 remaining in the second period on assists from Brandon Smith, whose shot Adduono redirected, and Eric Manlow. The Sound Tigers have now scored at least one power-play goal in each of their last three games.

The Sound Tigers tied the game at 2-2 on Konstantin Kalmikov's eighth goal of the season with 8:38 left in regulation on assists from Daniel Tkaczuk and Tomi Pettinen.

After Ray Schultz and Tkaczuk were denied by Hartford Goaltender Jason LaBarbera from just in front of the net, Jeff Hamilton chipped home a rebound at 1:24 of the extra session for his 11th goal of the season, his second in overtime, giving the Sound Tigers a 3-2 win. Schultz and Tkaczuk notched assists on the play.

The Sound Tigers were 1 for 7 on the power play, and 1 for 1 on the penalty kill and outshot Hartford 29-19. Sound Tigers Goaltender Scott Stirling made 17 saves for his third win in as many games with the team, his fourth in four AHL starts this season, while LaBarbera made 26 saves in a losing effort. Hamilton was the first star of the game, Kalmikov was second, and Manlow was third.
