
Sound Tigers Lose 2-1 To Albany In New Jersey

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 2-1 on the road to the Albany River Thursday. The game was played at the Continental Airlines Arena, which is the home of Albany's NHL affiliate, the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils.
After a scoreless first period in which each team was 0 for 1 on the power play and had five shots on goal, the clubs traded goals in the second half of the middle period. First, former Sound Tiger Ray Giroux opened the scoring and gave the River Rats a 1-0 lead with his eighth goal of the season, at four-on-four strength, at the 10:02 mark off assists from Ryan Murphy and Adrian Foster. Then, the Sound Tigers tied the score at 1-1 with Ben Guite ¬â¢s fifth goal of the season, a power-play marker, off an assist from Kevin Colley 3:16 later.
Chris Hartsburg put Albany back on top with his second goal of the season with 3:29 left in the third period off assist from Murphy and Foster. The Sound Tigers then called a timeout and pulled Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz in favor of an extra attacker with 1:35 left in regulation but were unable to tie the game.
The River Rats outshot the Sound Tigers 29-23, including 18-7 in the third period. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 4 on the power play while Albany was 0 for 4. Dubielewicz finished with 27 saves while Albany ¬â¢s Ari Ahonen had 22 stops in a winning effort. Hartsburg was the first star of the game, Ahonen the second, and Dubielewicz the third.
The Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of six straight road games when they visit the Philadelphia Phantoms tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The Sound Tigers ¬â¢ will return home to host Albany Saturday at 7:05 p.m. All of this week ¬â¢s games will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com beginning at 6:45 p.m.
