TEAM NOTES
Goaltender Mathieu Chouinard improved to 5-0-0 on home ice this season with his 22-save shutout performance against the Portland Pirates on Jan. 17. Two of Chouinard's five wins at the Verizon Wireless Arena this season have been by shutouts. He also blanked the Hartford Wolf Pack, 4-0, with 21 saves on Dec. 28.
Chouinard's home numbers include a 1.29 goals-against-average and a .941 save-percentage. His numbers over his last three starts on home ice are even better. Chouinard has allowed just one goal to the opposition over the last three, collecting a 0.33 goals-against-average and a .983 save-percentage.
Chouinard is 19-15-1 in 43 career AHL appearances. He has four career AHL shutouts.
The Monarchs have five shutouts this season, equaling their total for the 2002-03 season. The 2001-02 Monarchs recorded a team record seven shutouts.
The Monarchs have been shutout five times this season. They were only shutout four times all of last year and three times during the 2001-02 season.
Center Michael Cammalleri's power play goal with 1:05 remaining in the first period against the Portland Pirates on Jan. 17 put an end to the Monarchs longest scoreless streak in franchise history. The streak lasted 148 minutes and 21 seconds.
Cammalleri's goal was his first in 18 games including the NHL (went without a goal in his last 11 games in L.A. before being assigned to the Monarchs on Jan. 3; Went without a goal in six games with the Monarchs).
Cammalleri wasn't the only player to end a scoring slump on Jan. 17. Left wing Jeff Giuliano's goal was his first in 10 games, left wing Chris Schmidt's goal was his first in 11 games, and defenseman Randy Perry's goal was his first in 24 career AHL games.
The Monarchs put a halt to their two-game losing streak with their 6-0 win over the Pirates on Jan. 17. The Monarchs have yet to lose more than two consecutive games this season.
Right wing Pavel Rosa, who is one point off the AHL scoring lead with 47 points (18-29=47), has scored in 11 of his last 14 games, totaling 16 points (8-8=16) during the hot streak.
Rosa's third period goal against the Pirates on Jan. 17 was his 46th as a Monarch, tying him with former Monarchs left wing Derek Bekar for second on the team's all-time goal list. Rosa's next assist will be his 65th, tying him with former Monarchs left wing Eric Healey for second on the team's all-time assist list.
Rosa has yet to go scoreless in three games this season. He's gone scoreless in two games this season only twice, Jan. 11-16 and Oct. 10-11.
Center Steve Kelly added to his team record assist total with a pair of helpers against the Pirates on Jan. 17. Kelly, who leads the AHL with 31 assists, has 96 career assists in 138 career games with the Monarchs. Kelly is also quickly approaching his single season record of 44 assists in one season. Kelly set the single season record last year.
The Monarchs have scored five or more goals 10 times this season. They are 10-0-0-0 in the 10 games. The 2002-03 Monarchs scored five or more goals 20 times and finished with a 19-0-0-1 record in the 20 games.
The Monarchs only loss when scoring five or more goals over the last two seasons occurred at Worcester against the Worcester IceCats on Mar. 30, 2003. The Monarchs lost to the IceCats, 7-6 in overtime, in that game.
