Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CONN (Oct. 27, 2010) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers hosted their annual "Cool Fun 101" press conference this morning at the Black Rock School in Bridgeport. Students and sponsors were on hand as Sound Tigers Team President Howard Saffan spoke in preparation for the Sound Tigers upcoming "Cool Fun 101" game on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m.
"The purpose of our 'Cool Fun 101' game is to introduce all of you students to the game of hockey," said Saffan as he addressed the group of children at the Black Rock School gymnasium. "We've been holding this press conference here for four years running and we love being a part of this school, so thank you for being a part of us."
Thousands of students from the surrounding Fairfield County area will fill the Arena at Harbor Yard next Wednesday morning when the Sound Tigers host the Springfield Falcons. The event is sponsored by People's United Bank and the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
"We want to commend the Sound Tigers on this program," said Vince Santilli, First Vice President of Retail and Small-Business Banking at People's United Bank. "They are a terrific franchise and we're proud to sponsor 'Cool Fun 101'."
All students who attend 'Cool Fun 101' will receive a workbook that emphasizes educational aspects of hockey, including how the sport relates to math, science and other disciplines. Saffan's opening statement was followed by a question and answer session with the Black Rock students.
"We're delighted to continue this partnership with the Sound Tigers," said Black Rock School Principal Danuta Jarvis. "The children always look forward to this event, and we're excited for the game next week."
The Sound Tigers also announced that they will host another morning game later in the season, "Spring Fun 102", which will focus on many of the same educational values of Wednesday's event.
