Syracuse Crunch News Release
Hamilton, Ontario (October 27, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch were outshot 42-12 and gave up four third period goals, including the game-winner with just 40 seconds left in regulation in a see-saw 5-4 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs tonight at Copps Coliseum.
Kyle Palmieri netted his first professional hat trick and Nick Bonino and Brett Festerling added two helpers each in the losing effort.
The Crunch had a fast start and jumped out to a 2-0 lead inside the game's first five and a half minutes. Palmieri got the scoring started just 1:53 into the first frame when Bonino fed him the puck in front of the net and the Smithtown, NY native beat Robert Mayer to give Syracuse the early 1-0 lead.
The Crunch made it 2-1 just 3:21 later, this time on the power play with Hamilton's Mathieu Carle in the box for hooking. Palmieri took a perfect one-time from Festerling on a tic-tac-toe play and ripped a wrister from the slot into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Hamilton made it 2-1 before the first period was over when Max Pacioretty re-directed a Frederic St. Denis point shot past Timo Pielmeier at the 12:33 mark.
The Crunch appeared to have the game under control when Brandon McMillan tallied his third goal of the season after swatting in a backhand from the slot to make it 3-1 just 35 seconds into the third period.
Hamilton scored the next three goals to take a 4-3 lead in a span of less than five minutes, starting at the 12:04 mark when Kyle Klubertanz beat a down and out Pielmeier from the high slot on a broken play to cut it to 3-2.
Andrew Conboy added his third of the season for Hamilton just 1:33 later when his second effort hit the shaft of his stick, deflected off the crossbar and trickled over the goal line to knot the game at 3-3.
Hamilton took its first lead of the game on the power play just over three minutes later when J.T Wyman capitalized on a wide open net. The Crunch momentarily tied the game again when Palmieri scored on a scramble in front of the net for his third of the game at the 17:18 mark.
The Crunch still could not settle down defensively and gave up the game-winner with just 40 seconds left when Yannick Weber sniped a shot inside the far post to put Hamilton up 5-4.
CRUNCHABLES: Palmieri's hat trick was the first by a Crunch player this season. The Crunch have been held to under 20 shots in six of their first seven games, including a season-low 12 tonight.Nick Bonino extended his assist streak to four games.Luca Sbisa extended his point streak to three games.
