Bulldogs Crunch Syracuse with 5-4 Victory

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Syracuse Crunch 5-4 at Copps Coliseum on Wednesday night. The 'Dogs scored four goals in the third period including Yannick Weber's game-winning goal with 40 seconds remaining in the game. The Bulldogs only allowed 12 shots on net, tying the franchise record for fewest shots allowed in a game.

The Crunch opened the game's scoring at 1:52 of the first frame. Nick Bonino collected the puck behind the Bulldogs net before sending a pass to the front of the net, where Kyle Palmieri was stationed. Palmieri snapped a shot through the pads of Hamilton starting goaltender Robert Mayer. Syracuse added its second goal at 5:14 while on the power play. Brett Festerling received the puck from Luca Sbisa before sending a pass to Palmieri. Palmieri released a shot that beat Mayer low on the glove side.

The Bulldogs made the game 2-1 at 12:33 of the opening stanza. Frederic St. Denis received the puck from Kyle Klubertanz before releasing a wrist shot from the point. Max Pacioretty got his stick on the shot, redirecting the puck through the legs of Syracuse starting goaltender Timo Pielmeier.

Brandon McMillan gave the Crunch a 3-1 lead 35 seconds into the final frame. Trevor Smith shot the puck on net but was stopped by Mayer. The rebound bounced onto the stick of Brandon McMillan, who backhanded a shot past Mayer and into the back of the net.

Klubertanz added a goal for the 'Dogs at 12:04 of the third period. David Desharnais carried the puck into the Crunch zone before backhanding a pass to Klubertanz. Pielmeier was out of position, allowing Klubertanz to shoot the puck into the empty net. Hamilton tied the game 3-3 at 13:37. J.T. Wyman fired the puck to the front of the net, where Andrew Conboy was positioned. Conboy whacked the loose puck past Pielmeier and into the back of the net. The Bulldogs took a 4-3 lead at 16:53 while on the power play. Pacioretty took a shot that was stopped by Pielmeier. The goaltender was unable to cover the loose puck, allowing Wyman to grab the puck and fire it into the net.

Palmieri scored his hat-trick goal at 17:18 of the third stanza to tie the game 4-4. Nicolas Deschamps skated behind the net before wrapping around and shooting the puck. Mayer stopped the shot but the rebound bounced into the slot, where Palmieri grabbed the loose puck and rifled a shot into the net.

With 40 seconds remaining in the game, Yannick Weber scored to give Hamilton a 5-4 lead. Max Pacioretty collected the puck before sending a pass to Weber. Weber blasted a shot that sailed past Pielmeier and into the top of the net.

The 'Dogs will welcome the Toronto Marlies to Copps Coliseum for a game on Friday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
