Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Texas Stars handed the Peoria Rivermen a 3-0 loss to end their season long, seven game road trip at the Cedar Park Center Tuesday night. Stars' goaltender Richard Bachman saved all 38 shots that the Rivermen put on net and notched the win in his first start of the season.
Peoria finished the trip with a 5-2-0-0 record and remain atop the American Hockey League with 14 points through their first 10 games of the season.
Texas got on the board early in the first period with a power-play goal by defensemen Dan Spang. Just 35 seconds into their first power play, Tomas Vincour slid a pass from behind the net into the low slot where Spang wound up and blasted a one-timer past Ben Bishop to give Texas the lead just 4:15 into the game.
Cody Chupp added his first professional goal at 7:14 in the second period, which was assisted by Luke Gazdic and Tristian King. After Peoria nearly tied the game in the Texas zone, Chupp raced into the Peoria end on a two-on-one with King. Chupp's shot was stopped by Bishop but bounced in by a Rivermen defenseman who tried to break up the play.
Stars forward Travis Morin tallied his second point on the night and his first goal at 14:38 in the third period after deflecting a wrist shot from Trevor Ludwig Bishop.
Chris Porter led the Rivermen with six shots on net, followed by Dave Spina with five, and Nick Drazenovic, Nathan Oystrick, Dan Boyle, and Graham Mink with four a piece. The Rivermen outshot the Stars in every period and 38-23 in the game.
Peoria was scoreless on four power-play chances while the Stars finished 1-for-5.
The Rivermen return home on Saturday to face the Oklahoma City Barons at 7:05 p.m. It is Pink-in-the-Rink Night and the team will be wearing special pink jerseys to be auctioned off after the game to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. A portion of tickets purchased through the Rivermen office will also be donated. For more information or to purchase tickets call the Rivermen office at 309-676-1040.
