LOOKING AHEAD:
Offense and defense are set to collide as Hamilton hosts Syracuse tonight at Copps Coliseum... The Bulldogs rank third in the AHL with 3.50 goals per game thus far, while the Crunch have surrendered a league-low average of 1.83 goals per contest... Syracuse enters riding a three-game winning streak, during which rookie goaltender Timo Pielmeier has stopped 84 of 87 shots faced (.966)... Rookie forward Nicolas Deschamps (3-1-4) is tied for the team scoring lead with 20-year-old defenseman Luca Sbisa, who has put up four points (1-3-4) in two games since being reassigned by parent-club Anaheim... Hamilton is winless in three straight games but has earned a point in all three (0-0-1-2)... Ben Maxwell has registered a point in six straight games (3-6-9) to begin the season for the 'Dogs, and Yannick Weber leads all AHL defensemen with five goals and nine points (tied)... Hamilton boasts the AHL's third-best power play thus far (27.6 percent), but Syracuse has the league's top-ranked penalty-killing unit (30-for-31; 96.8 percent).
Twelve days after earning a 3-2 shootout win over Hartford on home ice, Albany visits Connecticut's capital for a rematch with the Wolf Pack... The Devils have played a league-low five games overall so far (3-2-0-0), and this marks the opener of a four-game road swing... Nathan Perkovich (2-1-3), Brad Mills (2-1-3) and rookie David McIntyre (2-1-3) are the only Devils with multiple goals; seven other Albany skaters have one apiece... Stephen Gionta, who scored the winning shootout goal vs. Hartford on Oct. 15, shows a team-best four points (1-3-4) for Albany... The Wolf Pack are looking to snap a three-game winless skid (0-2-1-0) - all at home - during which they have managed just two goals... Jeremy Williams snapped Hartford's scoreless streak at 158:18 with a goal in Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to Syracuse... Overall, Hartford is 1-3-1-0 at the XL Center and 2-0-0-1 on the road... Williams, who leads the Wolf Pack with four goals (4-2-6), has registered at least a point in five of his first eight games to begin the season.
A night after blanking West Division-leading Peoria at home, Texas hits the road for games in Rockford on Wednesday and Chicago on Thursday... The Stars are 4-2-0-0 out of the gate, but this will mark their first road game since a season-opening 3-0 win at San Antonio on Oct. 10... Travis Morin recorded a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Rivermen and paces the Stars overall with seven points (4-3-7) and a plus-6 rating through six contests... Defenseman Dan Spang notched the eventual game-winner on Tuesday for his first AHL goal since Mar. 25, 2009, for Syracuse... Rockford is coming off a 4-3 overtime win over Chicago on Saturday... Second-year defenseman Brian Connelly had three assists in that one and leads the IceHogs with seven points on the season, all helpers... Rob Klinkhammer (3-3-6) and 19-year-old rookie Jeremy Morin (3-1-4) share the team lead with three goals apiece... Rockford has scored 10 of its 22 non-shootout goals in the second period thus far, while Texas has notched 10 of its 16 tallies in the third frame.
Oklahoma City continues its five-game road swing with a stop in Chicago on Wednesday... The Barons have won four of six (4-2-0-0) since an 0-2-1-0 start, most recently a 3-2 overtime win at Hamilton on Sunday capped by a goal by Alexandre Giroux in the extra session... Rookie defenseman Jeff Petry has a point in four of his last five games (2-4-6) for the Barons, while Linus Omark (3-4-7) and Liam Reddox (4-2-6) each saw five-game scoring streaks come to an end in Sunday's victory... Oklahoma City goaltender Martin Gerber has turned aside 64 of 66 shots (.970) in his last two wins, with a 4-1 loss to San Antonio last Friday in between... Darren Haydar (2-5-7) and Jason Krog (1-6-7) are tied for the Chicago scoring lead with seven points apiece, and Krog shows four points (1-3-4) in his last two outings... Haydar notched the game-winning goal in the Wolves' 2-1 triumph at Oklahoma City on Oct. 10... 2008 Calder Cup champion goaltender Ondrej Pavelec is with the Wolves on a conditioning loan from parent-club Atlanta.
