Bridgeport Islanders News Release
ALBANY, N.Y. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers scored four unanswered goals, three in the second period, to win 4-1 on Saturday night at Times Union Center against the Albany Devils.
The Devils hopped out to an early 1-0 lead midway through the first period. After both Peter Sivak and Harry Zolnierczyk went to the box, Paul Thompson stuffed home a puck on the ensuing 5-on-3 for his league-leading eighth goal of the season.
Then the Sound Tigers took over the game, thanks to a little bit of puck luck. Midway through the second, Zolnierczyk kept the puck in at the point and fired it near the Albany net. The puck bounced around, off C.J. Stretch's skates and into the back of the net. Stretch was credited with his second goal of the season as it tied the game at 1-1.
Five minutes later, Colton Gillies got his first as a Sound Tiger. After Aaron Ness held the puck in at the blue line, he flicked a shot towards the cage, which Gillies redirected into the back of the net to make it 2-1.
Soon after, the Sound Tigers found themselves up two men after the Devils took a pair of penalties. Griffin Reinhart fed Ryan Pulock who blasted one past Devils netminder Scott Wedgewood. It was Pulock's second of his career and second in as many games and helped pad a 3-1 lead.
That was all the Sound Tigers would need, as they finished off the game thanks to an empty netter from Sivak. Kevin Poulin stood tall in net for Bridgeport, making 26 saves in the victory.
Bridgeport's special teams helped turn the tide of the game, killing off several penalties in the late first and early second. The team was 5-for-6 on the kill and went 2-for-7 on the power play in the game.
The Sound Tigers come back home tomorrow afternoon when they'll host the Springfield Falcons. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
Notes: Peter Sivak made his Bridgeport Sound Tigers debut, scoring a goal in the process...Kevin Poulin was named the game's first star and Aaron Ness the second with two assists...The Sound Tigers are unbeaten in their last four games (3-0-0-1).
