Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Ryan Hamilton scored two goals leading the Oklahoma City Barons to a 5-3 victory over the Iowa Wild Saturday night at the Cox Convention Center.

Hamilton netted both goals in the first period. The first came just 1:28 into play when he took a pass from David Musil and circled around the Wild net, pushing a wraparound shot past Iowa goalie Johan Gustafson for a 1-0 Barons lead.

Hamilton's second score of the first period came with the Barons leading 2-0 and holding a 5-on-3 advantage on penalties to Iowa's Stu Bickel and Zack Mitchell. With 6.6 seconds remaining in the period, a faceoff in the Wild zone led to both teams battling for possession along the corner boards before Matt Ford came away with the puck and fed Hamilton, who flipped a shot over the sprawling Gustafson from point-blank range. Official review later confirmed Hamilton's shot crossed the goal line with .5 seconds left on the clock.

The two goals were the most Hamilton has had in a game since a March 16, 2013 hat trick as a member of the Toronto Marlies.

Fifty-two seconds before Hamilton's second goal, Luke Gazdic extended the Oklahoma City lead to 2-0 when he received a centering pass from Travis Ewanyk and chipped the puck past Gustafson. Saturday's game was Gazdic's first with the Barons since joining Oklahoma City on a conditioning assignment.

In the second period, Jujhar Khaira added to the Barons lead to 4-0 when he received a Kale Kessy pass from behind the Iowa net and pushed a shot past Gustafson at the 2:58 mark of the frame.

The Wild notched their first goal at 14:05 of the second when Ryan Walters flicked a wraparound shot past Barons goalie Richard Bachman while falling to the ice just inside the Oklahoma City crease, making the score 4-1 in favor of the Barons.

Iowa cut the Oklahoma City lead to 4-2 2:05 into the third period when Marc Hagel gathered the puck off a faceoff win by Brady Brassart and fired a shot through the legs of Bachman.

With 29.5 seconds remaining in the third period, Hagel netted his second goal of the game, corralling a loose puck near the left circle a sending a shot along the ice that snuck past Bachman to cut the Barons' lead to 4-3.

Kessy added an empty-net goal with 8.7 seconds left in the game to give Oklahoma City the 5-3 win. The goal gave Kessy the first multi-point game of his AHL career.

Bachman stopped 28 shots in his first start of the season for Oklahoma City.

The Barons and Wild meet again Sunday, Nov. 2, in a 4 p.m. start at the Cox Convention Center. Those in attendance can partake in $1 hot dogs and soft drinks and join the Barons players for a postgame skating session.
