Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons fell to the Providence Bruins, 3-1, tonight at the MassMutual Center.
The loss drops Springfield to 3-5-1-0 on the season and builds a one-game deficit in the 10-game season series against Providence. The Bruins move to 5-2-1-0.
Falcons goaltender Scott Munroe stopped 16 of 19 shots in defeat, while Bruins goaltender Jeremy Smith turned away 27 of 28. The Falcons were able to convert on one of five power-play opportunities. The penalty kill unit shut down all six Bruins man-advantages.
The Bruins opened scoring with two quick goals in the first period. Ryan Spooner passed to Steve Eminger from the right corner. Eminger one-timed the feed from the slot to put the Bruins on the board just 1:11 into the game. Brian Ferlin was credited with the secondary assist.
Providence extended their lead with another goal at the 3:05 mark. Anthony Camara beat Munroe below the glove with a shot from the left wing to go up, 2-0. Tyler Randell and Ethan Werek both earned points for assisting on the play.
The Falcons solved Smith and cut the Bruins lead in half with a power-play goal at the 8:38 mark of the opening frame. Kerby Rychel ricocheted a pass off the end boards to Ryan Craig. Craig sent the puck back up to Jerry D'Amigo, who netted his first goal of the season from the right circle.
After an even second period, the Bruins struck once more in the third. Tommy Cross fired an unassisted wrist-shot through traffic from the left point to down the Falcons, 3-1.
The Springfield Falcons travel to Bridgeport to face the Sound Tigers on Nov. 2, before returning home to host the St. John's IceCaps on Nov. 5 and Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
